Taking another leap on civil - military coordination, on the direction of General Officer Commanding 55 Infantry Division,553 Infantry Brigade has organized inter clubs soft ball cricket tournament among the Grama Niladare Divisions. Total 8 teams took part in the tournament and preliminary & semifinals played 3rd week of November.
Barathi Sports Club and Sri Murugan Sports Club had played the finals on 27 November 2022 at Thaleyadi public ground. Sri Murugan Sports Club emerged as the champions of the tournament.
The motives of the cricket tournament were to build team work, cooperation, competitiveness, and military civil cooperation among youth in the area. Further, to generate pleasant environment among the residents in the area in spite of enormous economic challenges in the society. The Army western band and dancing troop in the area inspired the spectators during the break.
The winners and runners up teams were awarded trophies and certificates by the distinguished chief guest General Officer Commanding 55 Infantry Division Major General Prasanna Gunaratne, Brigade Commander 553 Infantry Brigade Brigadier Rohan Jayakodi and Reverent Father Amal Raj of Kaddaikadu Church. Further, Marathankerni Divisional Secretary Mr P Moorthi, Grama Niladarees of the area, Brigade Commander 552 Infantry Brigade, Staff Officers of 55 Infantry Division, Commanding Officers of 10th Battalion Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment, 12th Battalion Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment, Officers from Brigades and Battalion, and large gathering of villagers were witnessed the final match.
