The annual Cricket and Futsal tournaments organised by the 51 Infantry Division for the civil sports club teams held at the CIMIC Park Kopay under the guidance of Major General Mahendra Fernando, General Officer Commanding 51 Infantry Division on 20 November 2022.
St. Joseph, Kopay team became the champions in Cricket and Udayasooriyan Sports Club team became the champions in Futsal. Meanwhile, 51 Infantry Division Cricket team played a friendly Cricket match with the champions team to strengthen the relationship between military and the civil society. In addition, entertainment activities were conducted for the kids and gifts were distributed among them. A large number of civilians cheered for their favourite teams during the tournament.
The General Officer Commanding of 51 Infantry Division attended as the chief guest for the final encounter of the tournament along with Divisional Staff Officers and Other Ranks. Further, General Officer Commanding addressed the gathering and vowed to organise next tournament in large scale and he pledged winning teams would be taken on a tour to Colombo and a friendly encounter will be organised between the winning team and Colombo team. This assurance was highly commended and appreciated by the crowd.
