On a concept, made by the General Officer Commanding of 55 Infantry Division, Major General Prasanna Gunaratne RSP ndu psc IG along with the guidance of the Commander 552 Infantry Brigade, Brigadier Wijayanath Jayaweera USP psc, the troops of 1st Mechanized Infantry Regiment organized an Inter-GN Division Volleyball Tournament.
The Tournamentgot underway from 15th to 16th October 2022 at the Volleyball Court at 1st Mechanized Infantry Regiment Headquarters at Iyakkachchi. Volleyball teams from 7 GN Divisions competed in the tournament and displayed their skills and performances.
Out of Volleyball teams from 7 GN Divisions, Kovilvayal GN Division team and Iyakkachchi GN Division team were selected for the finals. After a neck to neck competition Kovilvayal GN Division team emerged as Champions in the Inter-GN Division Volleyball Tournament and carried away the Championship and Iyakkachchi GN Division team selected as a runners-up in the tournament.
The Commanding Officer 1st Battalion Mechanized Infantry Regiment, Lieutenant Colonel Rohana Thilakaratne graced the finals as the Chief Guest. Senior Officers, Officers, Other Ranks and civilians also took part in the awarding ceremony.
