Major General Sujeewa Senerath Yapa Completes Jaffna Tenure

Major General Sujeewa Senerath Yapa RWP RSP ndu, who held the office of the Commander Security Forces (Jaffna) for over a 6 months, relinquished the appointment on 12 June to assume duties as Commandant of Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force.

Prior to leaving Jaffna, the outgoing Commander Security Forces – Jaffna, paid official visits to 51, 52 and 55 Infantry Divisions and addressed troops. He offered his gratitude to All Ranks serving in respective formations for high standard of professionalism maintained during his tenure and committed service rendered to maintain a peaceful environment in Jaffna peninsula.

On12 June, he was extended a Guard of Honour at the Security Forces Headquarters - Jaffna by the troops of 12th Battalion of Gamunu Watch.

During the tenure in Jaffna, Major General Sujeewa Senerath Yapa initiated several measures to enhance security of Jaffna peninsula, which enabled strengthening the public confidence towards the Security Forces deployed in Jaffna peninsula while maintaining peaceful and free environment for day to day normal life of the population.

This senior officer was recognized and commended by the community in Jaffna peninsula for the efforts made to uplift the living standards of deserving people and most social welfare projects. He committed and dedicated to lend a helping hand to the General Public of Jaffna. Further, this senior officer initiated special training programmes to uplift the standard of officers and other ranks to improve their knowledge and skills to be professional members of the Army. On his directives, leadership training, workshops for officers, English language training for Other Ranks were also launched. Other than the professional training, many infrastructure and welfare facilities were improved at under command formations for the benefit of troops serving in Jaffna peninsula. As a battle-hardened officer, his visionary command facilitated operational and administrative requirements of troops to face security challenges and ensure the security of Jaffna population.

The outgoing Commander Security Forces Jaffna, a Senior Officer with about 35 years service leaves an indelible mark in Jaffna as a professional soldier, diplomat and a visionary leader. He displayed an outstanding personality; he is a benevolent leader and always maintain a goodwill among his subordinates and the people of Jaffna. Under his leadership, security forces were more closer to the general public of Jaffna and winning the hearts and minds of all communities.
