Jaffna Troops Organized S. Nagarathnam Memorial Championship Trophy Eleven a Side Cricket Match

The much anticipated and requested S. Nagarathnam memorial championship trophy eleven-a-side softball cricket match organized by Security Forces Headquarters (Jaffna) was held under the guidance and supervision of Major General Sujeewa Senarath Yapa RWP RSP ndu, Commander Security Forces (Jaffna) at Thyiddy Star Sports Ground on 04 June 2022. The cricket match which was initiated by Security Forces Commander with the hope of building camaraderie amongst youth living in Jaffna and see the active participation of them in sports.

Extending the ambiance for cricket lovers around the area, cricket match was held between Thyiddy Star Sports cricket team and Palmyra club Cricket team. Palmyra club cricket team won the toss and elected to bat and scored 79 runs for 8 wickets in 12 over’s. Then, Thyiddy Star Sports cricket team chased behind the 79 scores and finally, became the champions having scored 85 runs for 1 wicket in 9 overs.

Knowing what to expect, the spectators came prepared for the day, lingering on the grounds and cheering and supporting the teams. Also a wide range of songs being played in the background by papare in SF (J) troops. Further, it was decided that S. Nagarathnam memorial championship trophy eleven-a-side softball cricket match to be continued as an annual event under the sponsorship and guidance provided by Security Forces Headquarters (Jaffna).

Commander Security Forces (Jaffna), General Officer Commanding of 51 and 52 Infantry Divisions, Brigadier General Staff, Senior officers, officer of SF (J), Mr. Sriva Sri, the secretary of Thellippalei Divisional Secretariat, Mrs, S. Nagarathnam, Grama Niladari of Mylliddy, troops representing SF(J) and huge crowed around the areas were presented on the occasion.
