Chess Workshop had been initiated among school children under the guidance of the Commander Security Forces (Jaffna) Major General Sujeewa Senarath Yapa in collaboration with Sri Lanka Army Chess Committee with the assistance of Major General Swarna Bothota, Chairman, Army Chess Committee. The Workshop was conducted under the close supervision of General Officer Commanding 51 Infantry Division, Major General Chandana Wickramasinghe at CIMIC Park - 51 Infantry Division, Kopay on 12 & 13 March 2022.
The Workshop was structured in such a way to teach basic lessons and children were able to grasp the lessons easily. After completion of two days they were much confidence to play the wonderful game Chess. The beginners got the opportunity to learn, study, explore basic rules, Chess Notation, Check Made Pattern and how to use Chess Clock during the Workshop. Further, school children were provided with required study materials and other facilities such as lunch and refreshment.
Moreover, Workshop was conducted by well qualified instructor team from Sri Lanka Army Chess Committee headed by head coach Mr Sanjula Ravinath (FA) in Tamil language for 62 school children from 10 schools in Jaffna. Certificates were awarded to all participants to appreciate their enthusiastic participation further to encourage to the game by Commanders of 511 and 513 Infantry Brigades.
