Major General Jagath Kodithuwakku held the office of the Commander Security Forces (Jaffna) on 19 July 2021 and relinquished the appointment on 17 December 2021 to assume duties as Deputy Chief of Defence Staff. Prior to leaving of outgoing Commander, the series of military formalities were held at Security Forces Headquarters Jaffna on 15th and 16th December in line with the relinquishment of the appointment commenced with reviewing of the Guard Turnout, accorded to the outgoing Commander. The Commander, Security Force (Jaffna) reviewed the Guard of Honour accorded by the troops of Sri Lanka Army Light Infantry. A few minutes later outgoing Commander placed his signature on the Visitors’ Book leaving an inspiring and indelible chapter as the Commander Security Force Jaffna.
After posing for a group photograph with GOCs, Brigade Commanders and Staff Officers of the SFHQ (J), the outgoing Commander addressed the troops where he offered his sincere gratitude to All Ranks serving in respective formations for high standard of professionalism maintained and service rendered to maintain a peaceful environment and increase the civil military coordination activities in Jaffna peninsula. Further, he insisted preserving the image of the Army through maintenance of highest standards of discipline at all levels and function in all aspects, most efficiently and effectively.
Since the day he took over the office as the Commander Security Forces Jaffna, Major General Jagath Kodithuwakku initiated several measures to enhance the security of Jaffna peninsula, which enabled strengthening the public confidence towards the Security Forces deployed in Jaffna peninsula while maintaining peaceful and free environment for day to day normal life of the communities.
This senior officer was recognized and commended by the community in Jaffna peninsula for the efforts made to uplift the living standards of deserving people and most social welfare projects despite the COVID-19 pandemic. He committed and dedicated to lend a helping hand to the general public of Jaffna. He rapidly continued the routine programmes such as constructing houses for deserving families, provision of spectacles and wheelchairs for the deserving, conducting of medical camps and blood donation campaigns, provision of dry rations packs and school stationery items with the assistance of foreign and local well-wishers. The under command troops were directed by him with synergic efforts to assist the civil community who were affected by disasters and other adverse conditions. Amidst supporting the civil community in Jaffna, the senior officer initiated a number of programmes to felicitate the ex-servicemen in Jaffna District by facilitating them in many ways for their benefit in old ages, including supply of medicine to their door steps.
The initiatives and preventive measures were further activated during the Covid-19 pandemic by Major General Jagath Kodithuwakku as the Commander Security Forces Jaffna and they were highly commended and praised by the Government Authorities and Civil Community of Jaffna. His directives to maintain Quarantine Centers, Community Assistance Programmes, Monitoring Mechanism and Disinfection Programmes throughout the pandemic period safeguarded the Jaffna population from deadly virus. Finally, under the guidance of outgoing commander, felicitation ceremonies were organized in recognition and appreciation of frontline health workers, government officials and donors in Jaffna peninsula.
