As a measure to prevent the spread of new coronavirus in Point Pedro and Nelliady town, a sterilization programme was conducted by the troops of 551 Infantry Brigade, on the instruction of Major General Jagath Kodithuwakku RWP RSP ndu, Commander Security Forces (Jaffna) and close supervision of Major General MK Jayawardena RSP USP ndu, General Officer Commanding 55 Infantry Division on Friday 01 October 2021. In line with this sterilization programme, general public of the area were educated on the importance of adhering to health guidelines before general public start crowding into cities after lifting of the long quarantine curfew.
Under the supervision of Commander 551 Infantry Brigade and respective Commanding Officers, troops of 4th Battalion Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment and 16th Battalion Sri Lanka Light Infantry executed the task in Bus Stands, Shopping Complexes, Banking Complexes, Shops, Three-wheeler parks and crowded areas in both Point Pedro and Nelliady, following the proper guidelines for sterilization and disinfection. Further, this Programme was undertaken in coordination and participation of MOH offices and Urban Councils of Point Pedro and Nelliady.
