On the intention of turning the arid Jaffna peninsula to be a lush greenery by enhancing the density of its rain forest coverage, the 512 Brigade and under command troops launched the project of planting 1000 Kubuk saplings in Allaipiddy area along the Jaffna Kayts road on 5 September 2020.
This mega planting project was initiated and Kubuk Saplings were provided by the Magistrate of Kayts and the direction of General Officer Commanding 51 Division, Major General Lalith Ratnayake. The troops of 17 Gemunu Watch with the support of Navy troops of Kanchadewa base have completed the digging of 1000 pits to plant the saplings.
The Magistrate of Kayts, Mr. AP Judeson, Commander Northern Naval Command, Rear Admiral Kapila Samaraweera, Commander 512 Brigade, Brigadier Eranda Ratnayake, Divisional Secretary of Velani, Mr. R Sothinadan, Senior Officers of Army, Navy and the Police Officers of the Kayts Police Division participated the inaugural event.
