Troops of 51 Infantry Division under the Security Forces Headquarters (Jaffna) assisted monks to organize the annual ‘Katina Cheevara Pooja’ of Sri Naga Viharaya Jaffna, held during 05th and 06th November 2022, under the guidance of the Viharadhikari Shasthrapathi Ven. Meegahajandure Siriwimala Thero, following guidelines given by Major General Mahendra Fernando, General Officer Commanding of 51 Infantry Division.
The annual event was organized by the 51 Infantry Division upon instructions and patronage of the Commander Security Forces (Jaffna), Major General Chandana Wijayasundara. Few donors have provided financial support towards the success of the annual ‘Katina Pooja’, an offering that could occur only once a year.
Dhamma sermons and religious activities preceded the 'Katina Cheevara Pooja' which was brought from the Headquarters 512 Infantry Brigade and offered to the Maha Sangha. The alms-giving (morning and afternoon) and offering of 'Atapirikara' to Bhikkhus marked the culmination of the Pinkama.
Religious Dignitaries, Adheenam, Vicar General Jaffna and Asees Moulavi, Government Officials such as Consul General of India, Chief Secretary - Northern Province, Additional District Secretary - Jaffna, Provincial Director - Department of Health Service, General Officer Commanding 51, 52 and 55 Infantry Divisions, Commander Forward Maintenance Area (North), Brigade Commanders 512, 513 and 515 Infantry Brigades, Officers of Sri Lanka Navy, Air Force and Police were present at the event to witness the spectacular event.
