551 Infantry Brigade troops organized a programme to distribute school accessories for needy children studying at Ponnambalam Vidyalaya, in Karaveddy on 19th May 2023 as per the financial sponsorship by Steps Charity Foundation in Australia.
The event was organized under the guidance and advice of Major General Swarna Bothota, Commander of Security Forces (Jaffna) and Major General Prasanna Gunaratne, General Officer Commanding of the 55 Infantry Division. The project was patronized by Anuradha Wasala Ekanayake – Chairman of Steps Charity Foundation, Buddhika Karunanayake – Secretary of Steps Charity Foundation and other representatives of Steps Charity Foundation.
During the distribution, 25 students with special needs received packs of school items and other 55 students received valuable sport items to enhance sports skills.
Zonal Education Director - Wadamarachchai, Brigade Commander 551 Infantry Brigade, Commanding Officer 4th Battalion Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, Several Senior Officers, Officers, Other Ranks, Treasurer of Nelliyadi Trade Union, G.S of J/ 362 Karanawai, Principal with the Teaching staff and students took part in the event.
