Troops under the 55 Infantry Division have successfully carried out several community-oriented humanitarian initiatives to provide relief to people affected by recent adverse weather conditions and to restore essential infrastructure.
A contingent of 15 soldiers from the 11 (Volunteer) Gajaba Regiment cleaned the surroundings of the Akkarayankulam Divisional Hospital.
In addition, restoration work on the damaged bridge on the A-35 road in the Kandaweli area, which was affected by the recent severe weather, was carried out today (11 December). For this task, support was provided to a team of 04 officers with 42 soldiers from Indian Army representatives and 10 personnel from the Road Development Authority (RDA) who are currently engaged in constructing the new bridge. Assistance was rendered by: 10 soldiers from the 7 Sri Lanka Light Infantry Regiment, 10 soldiers from the 11 (V) Gajaba Regiment, 02 officers with 25 soldiers from the 6 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, 01 officer with 20 soldiers from the 9 Sri Lanka Engineers Regiment and one soldier from the Corps of Engineer Service.
These coordinated efforts by the military and partner agencies have contributed significantly to easing the hardships faced by the affected communities and to accelerating the restoration of vital infrastructure.
