The Tamil Tai Pongal Day Celebration Programme Along With Donation of School Stationeries for Students/Coconut Saplings for Villagers in the Area Conducted by 552 Infantry Brigade

On the conceptual guidance of General Officer Commanding, 55 Infantry Division, Major General Prasanna Gunaratna and the supervision of Brigadier Wijayanath Jayaweera, the Commander 552 Infantry Brigade, the troops of 552 Infantry Brigade of the 55 Infantry Division of Security Forces (Jaffna), in continuation of its series of community assistance programmes conducted a Tamil Tai Pongal Day Celebration Programme entwined with a donation programme (worth about Rs:800,000.00) on 16th January 2023 at Public Bus Stand Premises Pallai.

The donation programme contained dry ration packs for low income families, 150 School bags with stationeries to School Students to reach their educational goals and 500 Coconut saplings for villagers in the area as a measure to ensure their food security and distributed 50,000 rupees worth vouchers for the winners of traditional games organised in line with the Tamil Tai Pongal Day Celebration.

This event was organised by the Commanding Officers of 1st Mechanized Infantry Regiment, Lieutenant Colonel ACR Thilakarathne MIR and the Commanding Officer 23 GW, Major RMRB Rathnayake RSP GW and was coordinated by Civil Affairs Officer, 552 Infantry Brigade, Major RRS Dehigala SLSR on the sponsorship provided by the Hindu Tamil Union Pallai lead by Mr.S. Madan. The School Stationeries /Dry Ration packs/Coconut Saplings were distributed by Major General Prasanna Gunaratna, General Officer Commanding, 55 Infantry Division, Brigadier Wijayanath Jayaweera, Commander 552 Infantry Brigade, Mr. S C Krishnendran - Divisional Secretary Pachchalaipallai, Mr. K. Vaikunthanathan - President Trade Union Pallai and the donors.

The event had been truly colourful owing to the Traditional Tamil Cultural music/dance items conducted within the programme. A number of traditional songs and dances were performed by the Elders and School Children in the area which provided them the opportunity to display their talents in front of a diverse audience.
