Sri Lanka Army Completes Two-Storey School Building for AMTM College at Chullipuram, Jaffna

In a significant contribution to educational infrastructure development in the Northern Province, the Sri Lanka Army ceremonially handed over a newly constructed 90 x 30 two-storey school building to the students of American Mission Tamil Mixed (AMTM) College, Chullipuram East, Jaffna. The school building was formally transferred to the college administration during an auspicious ceremony held on 30 January 2026, marking a milestone in civil-military cooperation and community development.

The construction project exemplifies the Sri Lanka Army’s continued commitment to nation-building and educational advancement in post-conflict regions. Conceived under the strategic direction of Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General BKGML Rodrigo RSP ctf-ndu psc IG, the project was executed by troops from the 5 Engineer Services Regiment and the 51 Infantry Division under the supervision and guidance of Security Force Headquarters (Jaffna). Through the firm dedication, disciplined commitment and exceptional professionalism of the troops engaged in construction activities, the project achieved meticulous precision in execution and ensured timely completion to the highest standards.

The project received total financial support of approximately 25 million rupees from Dr. Gitendra Rajiyah, a philanthropist of Sri Lankan origin residing in the United States of America. Mr. Senaka Seneviratne of the Royal College Old Boys East Coast Foundation of USA served as the coordinator, facilitating seamless communication between the benefactor, military authorities and educational institutions.

The handover ceremony witnessed participation from a distinguished gathering, including Major General KTP De Silva RSP ndu psc, Commander Security Forces (Jaffna), Major General MR Razick RSP ndu, General Officer Commanding 51 Infantry Division and other senior military officials. The Secretary to the Governor of the Northern Province, the Deputy Director of Education - Valikamam zone, senior government officials, Dr. Gitendra Rajiyah with family members and other dignitaries, representatives from the Royal College Old Boys East Coast Foundation of USA led by Mr. Senaka Seneviratne, the Principal, teaching staff, students, parents and members of the Alumni Association were present. Army personnel whose technical expertise and dedicated troops enabled the project’s successful completion received formal recognition for their outstanding contribution.
