A special lecture on the "Legal Framework in the Sri Lanka Army" was conducted on 13th February 2025 at the Security Forces Headquarters - Jaffna, as part of the Wednesday training day programme. This event was organized under the guidance of Major General YABM Yahampath RWP RSP ndu psc, Commander of Security Forces - Jaffna, with the aim of enhancing the legal knowledge of military personnel.
The primary objective of the lecture was to provide officers and enlisted personnel with a comprehensive understanding of both military and civil law. This knowledge is vital not only for the effective execution of their duties within the Sri Lanka Army but also for fostering discipline and legal awareness in their civilian lives. By equipping military personnel with a thorough grasp of legal frameworks, the session sought to reinforce operational integrity, uphold military justice, and ensure adherence to civil regulations. Ultimately, it aimed to contribute to the development of a well-disciplined and law-abiding force.
The lecture was conducted by a distinguished panel, including Deputy Inspector General Jaffna, Kalinga Jayasinghe, the Commanding Officer of the 4th Battalion Sri Lanka Military Corps Major WDC Siriwaradana psc Lsc, and the Legal Officer of Security Forces Headquarters -Jaffna Major EMNKB Dissanayaka. The session covered a broad spectrum of critical topics related to military discipline, enforcement of military law, and the legal consequences of unauthorized and unlawful activities involving military personnel. Special emphasis was placed on upholding the core values of the Sri Lanka Army, maintaining operational integrity, and ensuring strict compliance with the established rules of engagement and the military code of conduct.
A total of 20 officers and 350 Other Ranks participated in this informative session within the SF (J) Area of Responsibility. The lecture provided valuable insights, reinforcing the importance of legal awareness and discipline within the ranks, thereby strengthening the ethical and professional standards of the Sri Lanka Army.
