Sinhala and Tamil 412 New Recruits Pass out in Jaffna

Four hundred and twelve recruits who trained at the Battalion Training School in Wasavillan, Jaffna passed out during a simple ceremony, after successful completion of their four - month basic training on Saturday 09 April 2022.

This recruit training course glimpsed its birth with the aim of exert a pull on Tamil and Sinhala speaking youths as recruits and transforming them to be professional soldiers while making them physically, mentally and morally fit to face future challenges of the army. This is the second Recruit Course that pass out in Jaffna as part of the first phase of the recruitment of new soldiers to the Army. Four hundred and twelve recruits including Tamil and Muslim youths passed out at the Battalion Training School in Wasavillan, Jaffna to be in line with the ' Army Way Forward Strategy - 2020 - 2025 ' of the Commander of the Army.

Major General Chandana Wikramasinghe RWP RSP ndu psc MA(IR), Commander 51 Infantry Division graced the ceremony as the Chief Guest and delivered the closing address by emphasizing the soldier’s responsibilities and importance of maintaining of discipline, proper performance of duties etc. Further, he highlighted that troops are the cornerstone of state and human security, but their legitimacy and effectiveness depend on fulfilling their mission accountably within a framework of democratic, civilian control, rule of law and respect for human rights.

The recruits were trained at the Battalion Training School in Wasavillan under the close supervision of Lieutenant Colonel AS Kandambi, Chief Instructor, Battalion Training School in Wasavillan.

S/2021VFRD/09899 Rec Sagara GAD received the award of Best Shot, S/2127197 Rec Jayawardana PSP, received the award of Best Recruit and S/2021VFRD11411 Rec Jayasena AP carried the Best in Physical Training award. They accepted awards from the day's Chief Guest.

Senior officers, Officers, Other Ranks and newly recruit soldiers participated in the ceremony adhering to the army headquarters stipulated health guidelines.
