Security Forces Headquarters (Jaffna) Celebrated New Year Dawn at the Commander’s Residence

The New Year, known as ‘Aluth Avurudda’ in Sinhala, and ‘Puththandu’ in Tamil, is celebrated by both communities by observing various rituals and customs.

Accordingly, Security Forces Headquarters (Jaffna) celebrated Dawn of the New Year and Lighting of the Hearth at the Security Forces Commander’s Residence with the participation of officers on the 13 April at the auspicious time.

Afterwards, the same officers participated for the starting of work and partaking of meals with Major General Chandana Wickramasinghe RWP RSP ndu psc, the Commander Security Forces (Jaffna).

Major General EMM Fernando Hdmc Lsc AATO, the Logistics Commander of Jaffna, Brigadier AK Weerasinghe USP, Brigadier Admin and Quartering, Brigadier WTMPS Bandara, Brigadier Coordinating (Volunteer) and several other officers participated for the event.

All Ranks tea table was organised on the following day (14 April) in the morning at Corporals’ Club with the presence of Security Force Commander as the Chief Guest. The Chief Guest delivered the formal New Year speech and elaborated a few valuable thoughts to concentrate on during the New Year. At the end, Jaffna Commander distributed traditional New Year gift to civil workers at the Headquarters.

Officers and Other Ranks also participated in the event.
