The 553 Infantry Brigade, under the leadership of Brigadier Saman Perera RSP, embarked on a transformative journey to give back to the community by organising a remarkable school accessory and sapling donation programme on 31 August 2023. This heartwarming event was brought to life with guidance from General Officer Commanding 55 Infantry Division, Major General Nalin Jayawardena RSP ndc and the visionary conceptual assistance of Commander Security Forces Jaffna, Major General Sujeewa Hettiarachchi RWP RSP VSV USP ndu psc.
The event, held in the picturesque Ramanathapuram Government Tamil Mix School, saw the combined efforts of the 6 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment and 14 Sri Lanka National Guard battalions. The Brigade's noble initiative aimed to benefit 200 under privileged students in the region and they were gifted with a school bag and seven essential books approximately worth of 600,000.00 rupees through the generosity of well-wishers, who contributed to the cause.
The event further exemplified the commitment to a sustainable future by distributing 200 coconut saplings, a valuable contribution from the Kandawalai Divisional Secretariat. In addition, saplings of Kumbuk, Mee and Kohomba, along with 5 kg organic fertilizer bags for each, were donated by the MAS Holdings. The event was graced by the esteemed presence of Commander Security Forces Jaffna, Major General Sujeewa Hettiarachchi RWP RSP VSV USP ndu psc accompanied by dignitaries from the military, police and government organizations.
