A Russian military delegation headed by Chief of Engineering Troops of Russian Armed Forces Lieutenant General Yuri Mikhailovich Stavitsky who is expert in demining operations, furnished with combat operation in Afganistan , Syria and Northern Caucasia visited Jaffna Peninsula on 23 and 24 November 2021.
A delegation comprised with Colonel Alexander Viktorovich Skvortsov, Officer of the Directorate of the Chief of Engineering Troops of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, Colonel Andrei Vladimirovich Romanchuck , Brigade Commander Pontoon Brigade, Colonel Igor Ivanovich Pavelko - Chief of the Engineering Troops Training Centre were called on Major General Jagath Koddithuwakku RWP RSP ndu, the Security Forces Commander at his office on 23 November. Thereafter, delegates visited Jaffna Fort, Nallur Kovil and General Denzil Kobbekaduwa memorial at Arali which signifies the most historical and cultural values in Jaffna.
The delegates together with Security Forces Commander and few senior officers participated for the briefing on history of demining in Sri Lanka, Site briefing, briefing on MDD, mechanical and manual clearing and witnessed the demonstrations on MDD, mechanical and manual clearing at Kadduwan HD site Jaffna organised by the field engineer brigade on 24 November. At the end of the programme, visiting delegation highly commended the briefings and demonstrations carried out by the engineer troops.
Finally, head of the delegation, the Chief of Engineering Troops of Russian Armed Forces Lieutenant General Yuri Mikhailovich Stavitsky signed the Visitors’ Book and exchanged mementoes marking the visit before leaving the Security Forces Headquarters Jaffna.
