Land Released to Civilians in Jaffna – Landmark Ceremony Held at District Secretariat

In a significant step towards reconciliation and restoring civilian ownership, a Land Releasing Programme was held at the District Secretariat in Jaffna on May 1st, 2025. The event marked the official return of 40.70 acres of land, comprising three land plots, to their rightful owners following comprehensive tactical and technical assessments.

The ceremony was graced by Mr. M. Pradeepan, District Secretary of Jaffna, and Major General Manada Yahampath RWP RSP ndu psc, Commander of the Security Forces – Jaffna. This event symbolizes a continuing commitment to releasing lands held for security purposes back to civilians in accordance with the policies of the current government.

The release of these lands was conducted under the guidance of Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo RSP ctf-ndu psc IG, Commander of the Sri Lanka Army, and closely supervised by Major General Yahampath. The initiative reflects the military’s ongoing efforts to facilitate peaceful resettlement and rebuild trust among communities in the Northern Province.

Officials emphasized that this process was carried out in response to appeals made by the rightful landowners, ensuring that their concerns were addressed with both transparency and accountability. The programme underscores the state's dedication to strengthening national unity while addressing the humanitarian and developmental needs of affected families.
