Kalaimathi Sports Club Emerged Winners in the Major General Ravi Ratnasingham Challenge Trophy

Kalaimathi Sports Club emerged winners of the Major General Ravi Ratnasingham Challenge Trophy -2022; the Inter-Club Soccer Tournament in Karaveddi and Point Pedro DS divisions, organized by the 551 Infantry Brigade, celebrating the 73rd Anniversary of the Army, under the supervision of Major General Prasanna Gunaratne, General Officer Commanding of 55 Infantry Division in accordance with the conceptual guidance of Major Genenral Chandana Wijayasundara, Commander Security Forces (Jaffna).

Commander Security Forces (Jaffna) attended the final encounter of the tournament on 25th October 2022 at the Colins’ Grounds, Nelliady. Mr Joseph Iruthayarajah, Mayor of Point Pedro attended the event as the Guest of Honour where the winning team was awarded the Major General Ravi Ratnasingham Challenge Trophy and Rs 100,000 in cash. Eight top teams of Vadamarachchi Football League took part in the tournament on knock-out basis and in a closely fought final encounter, Sivananthan Sports club became the Runners-up of the tournament and was awarded with Vish Nadarajah Trophy and Rs 50,000 in cash. Both Winners and Runners-up teams were awarded with certificates and medals while other participating teams were also awarded with Rs 10,000 each and certificates.

Under the instructions of Brigadier Chinthaka Wickramasinghe, Commander 551 Brigade, Major Ramya Kumara, Commanding Officer of 16 Sri Lanka Light Infantry organized tournament and was sponsored by Major General Ravi Ratnasingham (Retired) and Mr Vish Nadarajah and was co-sponsored by Pepsi.

General Officer Commandings of 55 and 51 Divisions, Commander Forward Maintenance Area (North), Senior Officers, 551, 552 and 553 Brigade Commanders, Commanding Officers, Divisional Secretaries and a gathering of civilian invitees attended the event, which was attracted by a large crowd.
