Humanitarian Relief Operations by Troops Under the 55 Infantry Division Continue in Kilinochchi

Due to the prevailing adverse weather conditions in the country, heavy rainfall and flooding have caused severe difficulties for residents in several areas of Kilinochchi. In order to restore normalcy in the society of the affected civilians, troops of the 551, 552, and 553 Infantry Brigades under the command of the 55 Infantry Division together with troops of the 7 Sri Lanka Light Infantry, 6 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, 10 Gajaba Regiment, 11 (Volunteer) Gajaba Regiment, and the 2 Sri Lanka National Guard Battalion and 14 Sri Lanka National Guard Battalion successfully carried out the following humanitarian assistance operations on 02 December 2025, under the instructions of the Commander, 55 Infantry Division.

Two teams comprising 02 officers with 06 soldiers each from the 551 Infantry Brigade distributed drinking water to civilians affected by emergency conditions in the Muthanagar and Pannankandy Grama Niladhari Divisions in Kilinochchi.

Three teams comprising 02 officers with 07 soldiers each from the 7 Sri Lanka Light Infantry Regiment distributed drinking water to affected civilians in the Ananthapuram and Ratnapuram Grama Niladhari Divisions.

A team of one officer with soldiers from the 10 Gajaba Regiment distributed pol roti and tea with milk to displaced persons sheltered at the Sri Vigneshwara School disaster relief centre in Kilinochchi.

Two teams comprising 02 officers with 07 soldiers each from the 2 Sri Lanka National Guard Battalion distributed pol roti and tea with milk to displaced persons sheltered at the Jayapuram Maha Vidyalaya and the Walaipadu Roman Catholic School disaster relief centres in Kilinochchi.

Two teams team comprising 02 officers with 08 soldiers each from the 6 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment assisted displaced civilians from Parantan to Thadduvankoddy to return to their places of residence, and also distributed drinking water to civilians in the Thadduvankoddy area.

Two teams comprising 02 officers with 08 soldiers each from the 14 Sri Lanka National Guard Battalion cleaned and purified a contaminated well used for drinking water in the Mailwanapuram area in Kilinochchi, which had been affected due to the emergency situation.
