The First Ever Tank in Palaly Declared Open

The tank named 'Ravindu Wapi' denoting the fact that it harnesses the energy of the rays of rising sun for the well being Jaffna, was declared open by the Chief of Defence Staff, Commander of the Army and Head of the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID – 19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc on 18 July 2020. The Palaly Tank named 'Ravindu Wapi' complete with a spillway, a sluice gate and a walking track was constructed by troops of 10 Field Engineers Regiment and 5 Engineer Services Regiment under the guidance of Commander Security Forces (Jaffna) Major General Ruwan Wanigasooriya. The technical supervision and partial funding assistance were provided by the Irrigation Engineer Jaffna. This is considered as the only tank with a properly constructed spillway within Jaffna District that can contain about 65000 cubic meters of natural water. This tank will not only benefit the troops by providing storage for much needed water resource but also will contribute to the enrichment of water table in the surrounding areas.

Commander Security Forces – Jaffna, General Officers Commanding 51, 52 and 55 Divisions and Commander Forward Maintenance Area (North) along with Senior Army Officers and Troops witnessed the event. The ceremony was conducted in line with current health guidelines.
