In a commendable civil-military cooperation initiative, a donation program was successfully conducted at Wannerikkulam Maha Vidyalaya on 17 May 2025. The event was organized as part of a Civil-Military Coordination (CIMIC) program under the concept of Major General YABM Yahampath RWP RSP ndu psc, Commander Security Forces – Jaffna. The program was held under the guidance of Major General BGS Fernando USP Hdmc psc, General Officer Commanding, 55 Infantry Division, and the supervision of the Commander, 551 Infantry Brigade.
The initiative was carried out by the 11 (Volunteer) Gajaba Regiment within the Wannerikkulam Grama Niladari Division, which falls under their Area of Responsibility (AOR). The donation program was generously sponsored by the Horana Suhada Mithuro Miuru Rasa Hawla, led by Mrs. G. I. Pries, a retired Director of the Mahaweli Authority of Sri Lanka.
As part of the humanitarian effort, clothing and toys were distributed to 80 children, while stationery supplies were provided to 40 school students. Additionally, clothing donations were made to 40 senior citizens aged 50 and above. To further support the local community, lunch was served to approximately 250 residents of Wannerikkulam.
The event was graced by Colonel TBMR Kandekumbura RSP USP, Commander 551 Infantry Brigade, as the Chief Guest. Several other distinguished attendees included the Civil Affairs Officer of 551 Infantry Brigade, the Commanding Officer of 7 Sri Lanka Light Infantry, and the Second-in-Command of the 11 (V) Gajaba Regiment, along with a number of other officers and other ranks.
The donation program not only addressed immediate community needs but also strengthened the bonds between the military and local civilians, underscoring the Army’s ongoing commitment to nation-building and community welfare.
