Under the guidance of the General Officer Commanding of the 55 Infantry Division, several community welfare programs were conducted on 05 December 2025 by the troops of Infantry Brigades and battalions operating under the Division in order to provide relief to people affected by the adverse weather conditions in the Kilinochchi area. These programs included the distribution of drinking water and the purification of water sources.
Troops of the 7 Sri Lanka Light Infantry Regiment cleaned two wells used for drinking water in the Maruthanagar area, Kilinochchi, which had been contaminated due to flooding.
Troops of the 14 Sri Lanka National Guard Battalion cleaned a well-used for drinking water in the Dharmapuram area which was polluted as a result of the floods.
Troops of the 1(Volunteer) Gajaba Regiment cleaned a well in the Rathnapuram area which had also become contaminated due to flooding.
Meanwhile, troops of the 551 Infantry Brigade Headquarters conducted a program to distribute drinking water to 15 families affected by the adverse weather conditions in the Anandapuram area, Kilinochchi.
These humanitarian efforts by the 55 Infantry Division reflect the Army’s continued commitment to assisting civilians in times of natural disasters by ensuring access to safe drinking water and supporting the well-being of the affected communities.
