In a dignified ceremony held on 21 December 2023, Colonel WAIS Mendis RSP USP of the Sri Lanka Armoured Corps officially assumed the role of the 21st Commander of the 553 Infantry Brigade. The transition took place at an auspicious timing, marked by religious observances and the planting of a sapling symbolizing growth and unity.
Addressing the troops with fervor, Colonel WAIS Mendis RSP USP outlined his vision for the brigade, emphasizing dedication and excellence. A warm all-rank tea party followed the ceremony, fostering camaraderie among the brigade members. The event culminated in a comprehensive briefing by staff officers, setting the tone for the brigade's future endeavours under Colonel WAIS Mendis leadership. As the new commander takes the helm, the 553 Infantry Brigade looks forward to a chapter of disciplined service and accomplishments.
