On the concept of General Shavendra Silva, Head of the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO), Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army, Directed to plant coconut saplings at every possible places such as army camps, barren lands and private lands in Jaffna Peninsula.
Accordingly, the project was launched ceremonially on 10 July 2021 planting 700 coconut saplings covering 10 acres in Bishops' Estate at Eluthumaduwal area under the close supervision of commander-Security Force Jaffna.
Major General Priyantha Perera, Commander Security Force - Jaffna together with Vicar General of the RC Diocese of Jaffna Rev.Fr.P.J Jebaratnam graced the event as chief guests. Head of HUDEC CARITAS - Jaffna, father Eugene Francis also presented at the event.
The coconut saplings for this project was provided by the Mr. Arundika Fernando, State Minister of Coconut, Kithul, Palmyrah and Rubber Cultivation Promotion and Related Industrial Product Manufacturing and Export Diversification.
General Officer Commanding 52 Infantry Division, Commanders of 522 Infantry Brigade, Commanding Officers of Under Command Battalions, Senior Officers, Government Officials and troops of 52 Infantry Division were participated for this event under the strict health guidelines stipulated by the Army Headquarters.
