Giving a boost to the COVID - 19 vaccination drive in Jaffna, a mobile vaccination drive was launched for elderly people above the age of 60, sick, handicapped and feeble sections in Jaffna peninsula by the troops of 4th battalion Sri Lanka Medical Corps on 19 August 2021.
This Mobile vaccination service is the brainchild of General Shavendra Silva, Head of National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO), Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army. It was initiated in Jaffna peninsula on the direction of Commander Security Force (Jaffna) and District Coordinator of COVID-19 Control and Prevention in Jaffna, Major General Jagath Kodithuwakku RWP RSP ndu.
The mobile vaccination drive was launched during a simple ceremony held in front of the Jaffna Teaching Hospital on Thursday (19) and Commander Security Forces - Jaffna graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, adhering to health formalities.
Dr. S.Sribavanandarajah, Deputy Director of Jaffna Teaching Hospital addressed the simple ceremony and commended the utmost commitment and dedication of the security forces during the COVID -19 pandemic and during all other needs of Jaffna people.
General Officer Commanding 51 Division, Commanders of 511, 513 and 515 Infantry Brigade, Senior Officers, Government Officials and Medical Staff of Jaffna Teaching Hospital were also present during the inaugural ceremony.
Accordingly, this mobile vaccination drive will be continued in coming days.
