The new Army Base Hospital in Vasavilan that provides Health Facilities for all Army Personal in Jaffna peninsula was declared open by the Chief of Defence Staff, Commander of the Army and Head of the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID – 19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc on 18 July 2020 on the invitation extended by Major General Ruwan Wanigasooriya, Commander Security Forces – Jaffna.
Troops under Security Forces – Jaffna especially troops of 4th Sri Lanka Army Medical Corps and 5 Engineer Services Regiment contributed for the construction work of the new hospital buildings under the supervision of Directorate of Army Medical Services.
Commander Security Forces – Jaffna, General Officers Commanding 51,52 and 55 Division, Commander Forward Maintenance Area (North), Senior Army Officers and Troops associated the Army Chief at the opening ceremony. The ceremony was carried out in line with social distancing and current health guidelines.
