Troops of 551 Infantry Brigade used the manpower and technical expertise of the Army as well as the support of a generous donor to construct a new home in the area of Thumpalai (E), Point Pedro for a deserving family.
In the presence of Major General Swarna Bothota, Commander Security Forces (Jaffna), on 01st March 2023, the keys were handed over to the beneficiary duing a brief ceremony.
Mrs Antony Deenas Tharshani, who had previously been living in dire straits with a daughter and two sons, now possessed a brand new home that had been constructed by the Army on her behalf. Major General Ravi Rathnasingham (Retired) coordinated with the Lions Club of Modera/Mattakkuliya to raise money for the construction.
Brigadier Jude Kariyakarawana, Brigade Commander 551 Infantry Brigade under the leadership and conceptual guidance of Major General Prasanna Gunaratne, General Officer Commanding, 55 Infantry Division coordinated the construction.
As the day's events came to a close, the Chief Guest gave out dry ration packs, kitchen appliances, and other household essentials to the deserved recipients, symbolizing handing over of the keys.
Mr Alvaipillai Siri - Divisional Secretary Point Pedro, Government Officials, Mr Shanthakumar, Mr N Jeganathan a representative of Wanni Aid, Brigade Commanders of 551 and 552 Infantry Brigades, Senior Officers, other invited guests, and neighbours also attended the ceremony.
