As per the instructions of the Commander 553 Infantry Brigade, Brigadier Saman Perera RSP the renovation of the road from Vettilaikerni to Mulliyan got underway on 30th April 2023 with the constructional support provided by the troops of 10 Field Engineers. This road used by civilians and the military for their administrative purposes with many difficulties. Further, the road was full of potholes and damages, which prevented vehicles from using it, as it remained unattended for many years. The renovated road provides motorable access from Vettilaikerni up to the A9 road at Iyyakachchi via the ancient Mulliyan Kovil in Vadamarachchi - East Divisional Secretariat.
Troops of the 553 Infantry Brigade and the 12 (V) Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment, together with the clergy and large number of civilians in the area, participated in the programme. Similarly, troops joined hands with civilians to clean up the surroundings along the road.
