Troops of the 7th Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment commemorated its 30th Anniversary with a series of elaborate programmes at Chavakachcheri on 04 November 2022 under the supervision of Lieutenant Colonel IKGSNA Bandara RWP RSP USP Commanding Officer of 7th Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment.
The programme got underway with the conduct of the Blood Donation Campaign at the request of Jaffna Teaching Hospital Blood Bank on 26 October 2022. On the following day, more than 100 volunteered to donate blood for the benefit of people in the Jaffna Peninsula. On 31 November dry rations packs were donated to the Children’s home at Kaithady.
In the evening of November 03, a special Bodhi Pooja was held at the Regiment’s Buddhist Shrine to bestow merits on fallen War Heroes and invoke blessings upon the soldiers.
The apex of the Regiment Day’s programme, the Battalion accorded a Ceremonial Guard Turnout to the Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel IKGSNA Bandara RWP RSP USP on his arrival at the main entrance. Then the newly constructed war memorial monument “ Ranaviru Upahara Mandiraya” was declared opened by the Commanding Officer and laid a Laurel of Flowers in respect of 239 brave personnel of the 7th Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment. Then the Commanding Officer was accorded with the traditional ceremonial parade.
A troops address, presented trophies for the winners of Inter Company Sport Events, Planting of a mango sapling, Taking of a group photo and All Ranks Lunch with other military formalities as well as the opening of the newly - built Other Ranks TV room on the same occasion, added more importance to the chain of anniversary arrangements.
