553 Infantry Brigade Troops Join to Commemorate ‘Maha Shivratri Day’

Troops of Headquarters 553 Infantry Brigade, 10 (V) VIR, and 12 (V) VIR had conducted a series of events in view of assisting people in respective areas for Maha Shivratri ceremony.

Accordingly troops serving under Headquarters 553 Infantry Brigade, joined hands to conduct community-oriented projects and offerings as a gesture of goodwill and reconciliation on 17th, 18th, and 19th February 2023 at Hindu Kovils located within brigade area. Officers and other

Ranks cleaned Mandalai Pilleyar Kovil and Mulliyan Amman Kovil premises in Periyapachchapalei prior to the Maha Shivratri Day. Further, they participated for the Kovil pooja on Maha Shivratri Day with devotees.

Further 10 (V) VIR troops under the guidance of the Commanding Officer, Major KHC Samanpriya, organized a special Kovil Pooja at ancient Nagathampiran Kovil premises in Nagarkovil in the evening on 18th February 2023. Coffee offered to the devotees on the following day morning at Sri Murugan Kovil – Nagarkovil.

Meanwhile, troops of 12 (V) VIR under the direction of the Commanding Officer, Major WTS Nayanajeewa, given away short eats and tea for the devotees at Veththalaikerni Pulleyar Kovil. Further, they participated to the pooja in the evening.

Those events were coordinated and supervised by the Brigade Commander, 553 Infantry Brigade, Colonel Jank Prematilake with the guidance of the General Officer Commanding, 55 Infantry Division, Major General Prasanna Gunaratne.

The Kovil Committee members and civilians extended their gratitude to the troops for enormous support extended to them for the success of this ceremony.
