In line with the 75th Anniversary celebrations of the Sri Lanka Army, the 551 Infantry Brigade organized a successful blood donation campaign on 4th October 2024 at Lumbini Viharaya in Kilinochchi. The event was held under the visionary leadership of Major General MGWWWMCB Wickramasinghe RWP RSP ndu psc, Commander of the Security Forces - Jaffna, and was guided by Major General RKNC Jayawardena RSP ndc, General Officer Commanding of the 55 Infantry Division. The event was supervised by Colonel TMKB Kandekumbura RSP USP, Brigade Commander (Overlooking) of the 551 Infantry Brigade.
Troops from Headquarters 55 Infantry Division, 551 Infantry Brigade, 7 Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI), and 11 (V) Gemunu Regiment (GR), in collaboration with the District General Hospital Kilinochchi Blood Bank, organized the campaign to meet the critical blood supply needs of the region.
A total of 83 military personnel, including the venerable Nawagamuwe Dhammananda Thero, along with other civilians, donated blood to support the community. Senior officers, officers, and other rankers from HQ 55 Infantry Division, 551 and 553 Infantry Brigades, 7 SLLI, 6 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR), 11 (V) GR, and 14 Sri Lanka National Guard (SLNG) also participated in this noble cause.
The campaign was a commendable effort in addressing the vital need for blood in the region while fostering closer ties between the military and the local community.
