551 Infantry Brigade Conducts Special Dengue Prevention Campaign

In a significant initiative to combat dengue fever, the 551 Infantry Brigade conducted a special prevention campaign in Kilinochchi town on October 8, 2024. This event marked the commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the Sri Lanka Army, reflecting the commitment of the military to public health and community well-being.

Under the leadership of Major General MGWWWMCB Wickramasinghe RWP RSP ndu psc, Commander Security Forces - Jaffna, and with guidance from Major General RKNC Jayawardena RSP ndc, General Officer Commanding 55 Infantry Division, the campaign saw robust collaboration among various government bodies. Acting Brigade Commander Colonel TBMR Kandekumbura RSP USP worked alongside the District Secretary - Kilinochchi, Mr. S. Muralitharan, and coordinated efforts with the District Secretariat, Divisional Secretariat, Pradeshiya Sabha, Kilinochchi Police Station, Civil Security Department, District Council, Zonal Education Office, and the RDHS and MOH Offices in Kilinochchi, as well as the MAS garment factory.

The cleaning efforts focused on the A9 road from Kilinochchi Hospital to Karadipokku junction and along Kanagapuram road. The campaign mobilized over 400 participants, including troops from HQ 55 Infantry Division, HQ 551 Infantry Brigade, 7 SLLI, and 11 (V) GR, along with civil staff from various organizations, showcasing a remarkable spirit of teamwork and community service.

This proactive approach highlights the military’s ongoing commitment to fostering a healthier environment and preventing disease outbreaks in the region.
