Under the guidance and instruction of Major General Manada Yahampath RWP RSP ndu psc, the Commander, Security Forces (Jaffna), 55 Infantry Division conducted its annual Christmas Carols Service at Nelum Piyasa theater, Kilinochchi on 26 December in order to commemorate Christmas and the dawn of the New Year.
With the invitation of Major General Manada Yahampath RWP RSP ndu psc, the Commander, Security Forces (Jaffna), Rt. Rev. Dr. Justin Bernad Gnanapragasam, Bishop of Jaffna graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and Mr. Nagalingam Vethanayahan - Honourable Governor of the Northern Province dignified the occasion as the Guest of Honour.
Ven. Ingiriye Dhammaloka Thero – Lumbini Temple, Kilinochchi, Vicar General Rev. Fr. PJ Jebaratnam, Rev. Fr. Sylvesterthas - St. Theresa Church, Kilinochchi, Rev. Fr. S Vignashwaran - Baptist Church, Barathipuram, Rev. Fr. SP Nessakumar - Church of Ceylon Mission, Karuna Nilayam, Rev. Fr. AF Beneth - Catholic Church, Paranthan, Maulawi Nasrif Mohomad – Masjisthul Salam Jumma Mosque, Kilinochchi, Mr. S Muralitharan - the District Secretary of Kilinochchi, Major General PR Pathiravithana USAWC psc - the General Officer Commanding of 52 Infantry Division, Major General MPNA Muthumala USP psc - the General Officer Commanding of 51 Infantry Division, were among other invitees to the event.
This annual programme was initiated to cultivate social and cultural awareness within the communities living in Kilinochchi in order to certify sustainable reconciliation among the public. Carols were sung by teams who represented different Churches in the area and Army dancing troop added colour to the night with a number of fabulous items with the live music of Army beat group and 7th Battalion, Sri Lanka Light Infantry beat group that reverberated, and adorned the festive atmosphere.
Gift packs, many sweets and toys were given away to all the children participated in carol service by the Santa Clause to make it memorable Christmas celebrations and it was done with the generous contribution of philanthropists and well-wishers.
Senior Officers from Army, Air Force and Police, Officers, Other Rankers, government officials and civilian community in Kilinochchi participated in the event.
