55 Infantry Division Takes Initiative in Tutoring for School Children in Point Pedro

In an effort to bridge the educational gap and to enhance the academics of school children in Point Pedro, 551 Infantry Brigade under 55 Infantry Division has taken a proactive step by commencing a tuition classes programme for school children of grades 9,10, and 11 at Kottawatthai American Mission Tamil Mix school (AMTM) and Polykandy Hindu Tamil Mix school (HTM) in the Vadamaarachchi zonal education area.

On the conceptual guidance of General Officer Commanding 55 Infantry Division Major General Prasanna Gunaratne, Commander 551 Infantry Brigade Brigadier Jude Kariyakarawana in close coordination with Major General Ravi Rathnasingham (Rtd) who is providing his generous financial support through the Vanni Aids (Canada), the programme was commenced as the first step of a long term plan to support the children in academics in the area.

The inauguration ceremony of the programme was held at Polykandy Hindu Tamil Mix school (HTM) on Monday (19) June 2023. General Officer Commanding 55 Infantry Division Major General Prasanna Gunaratne RSP ndu psc IG graced to occasion as the chief guest.

The tutoring will commence from 21 June, in every Monday and Wednesday at Kottawatthai American Mission Tamil Mix school (AMTM). The classes will conduct in the subjects of English, Mathematics and Science by well expertise teachers in Point Pedro who will be paid Rs.12000 per each subject monthly.

The event was also attended by Mr. K Sathyapalan Director Vadamarachchci Zonal Education Office, Mrs. Umakanthi Sivakami Additional Divisional Secretary of Karaveddi, Mr. N Jaganathan representative of Vanni Aids (Canada), Commanding Officer 4th Battalion Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, other dignitaries, government officials and principal, teaching staff and all the students of grade 9,10, and 11 from both schoolsand parents.
