The 55 Infantry Division Headquarters carried out a series of community welfare operations on 04 December 2025, aimed at assisting residents in Kilinochchi affected by adverse weather conditions. These initiatives were conducted under the guidance of the General Officer Commanding, 55 Infantry Division Major General Aruna Wijekoon USP ndc, with the participation of troops from the Infantry Brigades and battalions operating under the Division’s command.
The operations focused on cleaning contaminated drinking-water wells, distributing safe drinking water, and supporting the restoration of damaged infrastructure in several areas.
The following humanitarian activities were conducted:
Troops of the 6 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment assisted the RDA in clearing and preparing an alternative route near the iron bridge at the 10th Mile Post in the Velikandai area, which had been damaged due to the adverse weather conditions.
Troops of the 7 Sri Lanka Light Infantry cleaned two drinking-water wells belonging to A. Krishnamoorthy and R. Gauri in Rathnapuram, which had been contaminated by floodwaters.
Troops of the 14 Sri Lanka National Guard cleaned a drinking-water well in the Dharmapuram area, which had been polluted due to flooding.
Troops of the 6 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment cleaned drinking-water well in Thadduvankoddy that had been affected by floodwater contamination.
Troops of the 6 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment also carried out a drinking-water distribution program for 50 displaced families residing in the Ambalnagar area.
Additionally, troops of the 7th Sri Lanka Light Infantry conducted a drinking-water distribution initiative for 60 families in the Rathnapuram and Anandapuram GN Divisions, who were facing severe difficulties due to the absence of safe drinking water.
These efforts demonstrate the continued commitment of the 55 Infantry Division and Sri Lanka Army to supporting communities in distress and ensuring the safety and well-being of the public during periods of natural disaster.
