55 Infantry Division Keeps Another Giant Step in Competency Through Education’ Program

Keeping another giant step in the ‘Competency Through Education’ program initiated by 55 Infantry Division, a Variety Show of English/Sinhala language teaching program, was taken place on Saturday 24th of June 2023 at the Division premises. The colorful extravaganza of talent and language immersion left a lasting impact on young minds in the areas of Kaddaikadu and Kevil.

A ground breaking initiative taken by General Officer Commanding 55 Infantry Division Major General Prasanna Gunaratne RSP ndu psc IG in organizing this event, left the children and their families in awe.

The aim of this event was to infuse the process of language acquisition with fun and excitement, providing the children with a platform to express themselves in English and build their confidence in the language. Further, it was intended to give the children an opportunity to showcase their talents in front of their parents, and the parents to witness their children perform in a large forum where opportunities are limited in areas of this nature.

Under the guidance of General Officer Commanding 55 Infantry Division, and close supervision and coordination of the Civil Affairs Coordinator Lt Col KKDR Chaminda, the children were guided by Capt Roshni Ranasinghe English Instructor of SFHQ (J).

With the participation of more than 150 students, the Variety Show featured an array of performances including English, Sinhala and Tamil Songs, Dramas, Poems, Speeches and Dances. The transformative impact of the course on the children’s language skills was evident throughout the event. All the performers in the event were presented with gifts and the event was followed by a special lunch at Nature Park Holiday Resort Chundukulam for the invitees and more than 500 lunch packets were distributed among all the participants and parents.

General Officer Commanding 55 Infantry Division Major General Prasanna Gunaratne RSP ndu psc IG graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. SSP Kilinochchi Police Division SSP Ajith Gunaratne, Rev. Fr Amalraj, District Secretary Maruthankerny Mr. Prabhakamoorthi, Commander 553 Infantry Brigade Brigadier Saman Perera RSP, Commander 552 Infantry Brigade Colonel Suresh Radalage RWP RSP, Government Officials, Community Leaders, Parents and Civilians in the area witnessed the occasion.

In respect of the unparalleled service and efforts taken by the SL Army in true reconciliation and development of the populace; GOC of 55 Infantry Division Major General Prasanna Gunaratne was honoured with Golden Shawl and Garlanded by the Divisional Secretary of Maruthankeny and the Parish Priest of Kaddaikkadu during the event.

The event served as a powerful reminder of the limitless potential residing in every child, regardless of their background circumstances.
