55 Infantry Division Hosts Sinhala and Tamil New Year festival in kilinochchi

In a vibrant celebration of cultural harmony and tradition, the 55 Infantry Division of the Sri Lanka Army, under the guidance of Major General Manada Yahampath RWP RSP ndu psc, Commander, Security Forces - Jaffna, organized a Sinhala and Tamil New Year Festival on April 19 2025 at the Kilinochchi Central College sports ground.

The event drew a large and enthusiastic crowd, with members of the Tamil community in Kilinochchi joining hands with the military to mark the dawn of the Sinhala and Tamil New Year 2025. The festival featured a variety of traditional games, cultural performances, and activities that highlighted the region’s rich heritage and emphasized the spirit of unity between the Army and the local civil population.

A colourful musical fiesta followed the day’s celebrations, continuing until midnight and creating an atmosphere of joy and togetherness. The musical evening provided a platform for attendees to enjoy live performances and share the festive spirit in a relaxed and cheerful setting.

Major General Manada Yahampath graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Also in attendance were Mrs. Nalayini Inbaraj, Additional District Secretary of Kilinochchi, along with senior officers from the Army, Air Force, and Police, Other Rankers, government officials, and a host of distinguished civil and religious dignitaries.

The festival served not only as a celebration of the New Year but also as a meaningful gesture towards reconciliation and mutual respect, strengthening the bonds between the military and the community in the Northern Province.
