As a part of the ‘Clean Sri Lanka Programme initiated under the vision of His Excellency the president, an awareness programme and a cleaning initiative was organized as per the guidance of Major General KAN Rasika Kumara ndc psc, the Commander Security Forces (Jaffna) and under the supervision of Major General MN Fernando RSP, the General Officer Commanding of 52 Infantry Division and headed by Brigadier MHSP Senaratne RSP, the Commander 521 Infantry Brigade on 13 July 2025.
The troops of 52 Infantry Division, joined hands with the Divisional Secretariat - Point Pedro, Sri Lanka Police, Urban Council Point Pedro, Urban Council Valvattithurai, Pradeshiya Saba - Point Pedro, Divisional Hospital - Manthikai, Public Health Inspector Office - Point Pedro, Fisheries Associations, Trade Association and the local civilian community to restore the natural beauty of the Point Pedro Beach and promote environmental awareness. Further, School Principals, Teachers and Students from schools in Point Pedro area also attended for the Awareness programme.
Hindu, Catholic and Muslim religious leaders also participated for this event and Major General KAN Rasika Kumara ndc psc participated as the Chief Guest. Mr T Tharshan - Engineer, Department of Conservation and Coastal Resources Management conducted an Awareness Programme on Clean Sri Lanka initiative and the importance of Conservation of Coastal Belt and Coastal Resources Management.
This collaborative effort was a proud contribution to the "Clean Sri Lanka" initiative, carried out under the uplifting theme, "A Beautiful Coastline, an Attractive Tourism Destination". 20 Officers and 300 Soldiers from Sri Lanka Army, 20 Police officers from Sri Lanka Police, 150 officials from all government institutions and 400 civilians joined for the event to clean along 6 Km Beach coastal and surrounding road side from Sakkotai to Thumpalai Beach, 3 Km from Point Pedro Jetty to Manthikai Junction and Point Pedro Town area.
