A beach cleaning programme was organized on 4th October 2024 to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of the Sri Lanka Army. The event, led by the 512 Infantry Brigade, took place under the guidance of Major General MGWWWMCB Wickramasinghe RWP RSP ndu psc, Commander of Security Forces (Jaffna), and was supervised by Major General WBJK Wimalaratne RWP RSP, General Officer Commanding, 51 Infantry Division. Brigadier MPSP Kulasekara WWV RWP RSP, Commander of the 512 Infantry Brigade, spearheaded the event, which targeted Jaffna Lagoon and its surrounding coastal areas.
The programme aimed to promote awareness of marine conservation and encourage community involvement in cleaning efforts. The clean-up covered a 3-kilometer stretch of highly polluted coastline, which was littered with wrappers, plastic bottles, polythene, and empty cans.
Several dignitaries, including Hon. Governor of the Northern Province, Mr. Nagalingam Vethanayaham, along with provincial government officials, health authorities, army and police representatives, and business and civil organization members, participated in this meaningful initiative.
