Under the guidance of Security Forces (Jaffna), 51 Infantry Division conducted its annual Christmas Carols Service at St. Mary’s Cathedral, Jaffna on 24 December 2024 in order to commemorate Christmas and the dawn of the New Year.
Major General Manada Yahampath RWP RSP ndu psc, the Commander, Security Forces (Jaffna) graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and Rt. Rev. Dr. Justin Bernad Gnanapragasam, Bishop of Jaffna dignified the event with his honourable presence at the invitation of Major General MPNA Muthumala USP psc, the General Officer Commanding of 51 Infantry Division.
This annual programme was initiated to cultivate social and cultural awareness within the communities living in the Jaffna peninsula, in order to certify sustainable reconciliation among the public. A number of events added to the day’s programme such as carols, stage plays, songs etc...with the live music of Corps of Engineer Services brass band that reverberated and adorned the festive atmosphere.
More than 400 gift packs, many sweets and toys were given away to the children to make a memorable Christmas celebration with the contribution of 511, 512, 513 Infantry Brigades and the under command Battalions.
Mr. L. Ilaangovan - Chief Secretary of the Northern Province, Mr. M. Piratheepan - District Secretary of Jaffna, Senior Officers from Air Force and Police, Officers, Other Rankers and thousands of devotees participated in the event.
