Troops of the 51 Infantry Division under Security Force Headquarters Jaffna continued their community assistance operations across the Jaffna Peninsula on 7 December 2025, marking the fifth consecutive day of sustained CIMIC oriented activities as the Division responded to the continuing effects of Cyclone Ditwah and the prevailing adverse weather conditions. All three brigades under command remained fully committed to assisting affected communities through well cleaning operations, restoration of religious sites and comprehensive cleaning programmes across multiple locations within the Division area of responsibility.
Under the 511 Infantry Brigade, troops of the 9 (Volunteer) Sri Lanka Light Infantry Regiment continued their ongoing restoration work at Ayyanar Kovil, Kadduwan, where a large Banyan tree had fallen due to the adverse weather, causing partial damage to the roof structure. Tree removal was fully completed yesterday and roof repair commenced today, supported by 01 officer with 10 soldiers who remained engaged in the task as at 7 December 2025. Meanwhile, troops of the 15 Sri Lanka National Guard Battalion continued their emergency disaster relief programme in Uduvil South West, cleaning a public well at J/186 Kuuramban Area. This effort ensured safe access to water for families affected by flood water in the locality.
Under the 512 Infantry Brigade, troops of the 14 Gajaba Regiment conducted a cleaning programme at Pannai Park, Pannai Junction, deploying 01 officer with 10 soldiers to restore the premises for public use. The battalion continued to contribute to improving public sanitation and community environments. Troops of the 17 Gemunu Watch Regiment extended their ongoing well restoration efforts in Ariyalai South East, cleaning the fifth well located at 13th Cross Lane, Periyathottam. A team of 01 officer with 10 soldiers carried out the task, bringing the total number of cleaned wells in the area to five and ensuring continued access to clean water for families who depend entirely on well water for daily needs.
Under the 513 Infantry Brigade, troops of the 11 Sri Lanka Light Infantry Regiment provided essential assistance to the Weerabadhra Kovil at Araly South. A team of 01 officer with 10 soldiers cleaned the kovil premises, enhancing community access to the religious site during this period of recovery.
As community assistance operations extended into their fifth consecutive day, troops of the 51 Infantry Division continued to demonstrate resolute dedication to supporting the civilian population across the Jaffna Peninsula. Through well-coordinated cleaning operations, restoration work and sustained community engagement, the Division maintained its commitment to ensuring the wellbeing, safety and resilience of affected communities as regional recovery efforts progressed.
