51 Infantry Division Troops Continue Community Assistance Operations Across the Jaffna Peninsula

Troops of the 51 Infantry Division under Security Force Headquarters Jaffna continued Division led community assistance and civil military cooperation operations across the Jaffna Peninsula on 13 December 2025, marking the tenth consecutive day of sustained humanitarian engagement in support of communities affected by Cyclone Ditwah and prevailing adverse weather conditions. All under command brigades remained actively committed to restoring essential services rehabilitating public institutions and improving living conditions within the Division area of responsibility.

Under the 511 Infantry Brigade, troops of the 15 Battalion Sri Lanka National Guard conducted a cleaning and restoration programme at the flood affected Urelu Sri Ganesha College, deploying a dedicated team of troops to clear debris and rehabilitate the school premises to facilitate the resumption of normal educational activities. In addition, troops of the 9 (V) Sri Lanka Light Infantry continued humanitarian support to affected civilians in the Palali North area by distributing clean drinking water using a battalion water bowser, ensuring uninterrupted access to safe drinking water for vulnerable households.

Under the 512 Infantry Brigade, troops of the 17 Gemunu Watch carried out a public well cleaning and restoration programme in the Gurunagar area, further enhancing potable water availability for local communities. With this effort, the battalion successfully increased the number of restored wells within its area of responsibility, reflecting sustained operational focus on essential community infrastructure.

Under the 513 Infantry Brigade, troops of the 11 Sri Lanka Light Infantry extended essential assistance by conducting a cleaning programme at the Udayasooriyan sports ground in the Araly area, restoring the facility for community and youth activities. Concurrently, troops of the 10 Sri Lanka Artillery assisted flood affected civilians in cleaning and rehabilitating their houses in the Keeramalei Naguleshwaram area, providing much needed manpower support to accelerate household recovery efforts.

As community assistance operations progressed into their tenth consecutive day, troops of the 51 Infantry Division once again demonstrated steadfast commitment professionalism and resilience in supporting the people of the Jaffna Peninsula. The Division continues to focus on restoring essential services safeguarding public wellbeing and contributing decisively to the ongoing community recovery process following recent adverse weather conditions.
