In celebration of the 75th Anniversary of the Sri Lanka Army, the 51 Infantry Division, under the guidance of Major General WBJK Wimalaratne RWP RSP, General Officer Commanding, organized a beach cleaning programme at Kankesanthurai on 7th October 2024.
Over 100 personnel participated in the initiative, aimed at raising public awareness about the importance of preserving coastal and marine resources. The cleaning effort, which focused on the Kankesanthurai harbor and lighthouse areas, sought to inspire community involvement in ongoing beach conservation efforts. Litter collected during the event was properly removed, making a significant environmental impact on the region.
Brigadier BADRAC Wijesekera RSP USACGSC, Commander of 511 Infantry Brigade, Brigadier EMLP Ekanayake USP, Commander of 513 Infantry Brigade, along with military and police personnel, Divisional Secretary of Thelippalai, and workers from the Walikamam PradeshiyaSabha, joined forces in this valuable effort to clean and protect the local coastal environment.
