The 29th death anniversary of the legendry military leader in the Sri Lankan Military History, Lieutenant General Denzil Kobbekaduwa RWP RSP VSV USP rcds psc was commemorated at Araly Point Monument, Kayts with the participation of Chief of Defence Staff and the Commander of the Army, General Shavendra Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc Mphil, Commander Security Force (Jaffna), Major General Jagath Kodithuwakku RWP RSP ndu and senior officers of Tri services.
The day’s proceedings were comprised of religious observances and a two-minute silence was observed in honour of the War Heroes who laid their lives for the motherland. Later, laying floral wreaths to the Araly Points Monument, Kayts took place by Chief of Defence Staff and the Commander of the Army, General Shavendra Silva together with Commander Security Force (Jaffna), Major General Jagath Kodithuwakku and Senior Officers of Tri Forces.
Lieutenant General Denzil Kobbekaduwa gallant war hero along with a team of renowned military commanders, Maj Gen Wijaya Wimalaratne, Rear Admiral Mohan Jayamaha, Lt Col HR Stephen, Lt Col GH Ariyaratne, Lt Col YN Palipana, Commander Asanga Lankathilaka, Lt Col Nalin de Alwis, Lt Commander CB Wijepura and Private WJ Wickremasinghe were caught to a land mine blast at Araly Point on 08 August 1992 while they were on planning the capture of Jaffna Town.
On the eve of the 29th Commemoration of war heroes, Lieutenant General Denzil Kobbekaduwa War Memorial Museum - Kayts was declared open by the Chief of Defence Staff and the Commander of the Army, General Shavendra Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc Mphil.
General Officers Commanding 51, 52, and 55 Divisions, Commander Forward Maintenance Area North, Brigadier General Staff, and Brigadier Admin and Quartering of Security Force Headquarters Jaffna, Brigade Commanders, Senior Staff Officers of Security Force Headquarters Jaffna, Commanding Officers, Officers and troops of Tri-Services were also present.
