History of Forward Maintenance Area (North)
Forward Maintenance Area (North) was established on 25 June 1995 by ARO 64/97 G/SD/51.Initially the Headquarters Forward Maintenance Area (North) was located at Kankasanthurai cement factory complex (GR 188103) The Headquarters Forward Maintenance Area (North) assign with role to performed as an efficient and effective admin and logistic supply system through all relevant service units for all ops/ peace time requirements within the Security Force Headquarters (Jaffna) area of responsibility. Further Forward Maintenance Area (North) was established present location at Mylliddy(GR 209111) on 06 August 2013 while providing adequate efficient and effective admin and logistic support to the Security Force Headquarters (Jaffna) area of responsibility.

Vision
To be the pioneer in providing comprehensive logistics and administrative support for the troops deploy within the Security Force Headquarters (Jaffna) Area of Responsibility.
Mission
To ensure efficient and effective logistics and administrative support for the troops through proper coordination of under command logistics units in order to maintain the operational readiness of all Army establishments within the Security Force Headquarters (Jaffna) Area of Responsibility.
Task and Responsibilities of Forward Maintenance Area (North).
- Responsible for smooth function of all logistics, medical, administrative and welfare activities within Security Force Headquarters (Jaffna) area of responsibility according to the Army orders/sops.
- Exercise Commander to ensure effective and efficient logistics, administrative and medical support to Security Force Headquarters (Jaffna) and its affiliated field formations.
- Supervision and accountability on financial powers within the allocated votes given to logistics units by the Army Headquarters.
- Provide necessary advice and suggestions to Commander Security Force Headquarters (Jaffna) to administration and logistic matters.
- Coordinate all logistics matters in the Security Force Headquarters (Jaffna) area of responsibility with Branches and Directorates of Army Headquarters.
- Supervise construction activities/projects carried out by the Corps of Engineer Service Regiment deployed in Security Force Headquarters (Jaffna) area of responsibility.
- Assist and advice on logistics, medical and administrative matters of field formations.
- Monitor and supervision logistics trade training schedules implemented by the Army Headquarters.
- Under take specialized training for logistics units deployed in the Security Force Headquarters (Jaffna) area of responsibility.
- Maintain effective corporation and harmony among the logistics, medical units deployed in Security Force Headquarters (Jaffna) area of responsibility with Army Headquarters Directorates, Branches and Field Formations.
Additional Responsibilities of Forward Maintenance Area (North).
- Responsible for perform any duty assigned by superior authority, except the duties mentioned above.
- Conducting of regional procurement committee (minor) for purchase of essential service/items.
- Maintenance of additional stocks for the requirement of Security Force Headquarters (Jaffna) Area of Responsibility.
