As of this morning (15), a total of 117 more persons were confirmed positive to COVID-19 in the past 24 hours. 18 Sri Lankan expatriates and 99 of those positive cases are locally-identified ones, including the majority 26 from Jaffna District, 21 from Colombo District, 19 from Nuwaraeliya and 33 others from different Districts, states the National Operations Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO).

Australia-domiciled President’s Counsel and the former Public Trustee of Sri Lanka, Mr Sanath Weeratne, full of praise and admiration for “well-structured COVID-19 health work in Sri Lanka and efficient and organized Officers of the Army with great professionalism, grace and common courtesy equally to all” in a message conveyed to the Commander of the Army, General Shavendra Silva opines that “he is proud as a Sri Lankan to state that systems in his residential country, in his personal opinion, do not seem to have such a streamlined or well-structured system in place as we do here in Sri Lanka at the moment.”

As of this morning (8), a total of 221 more persons were confirmed positive to COVID-19 in the past 24 hours. 31 Sri Lankan expatriates and 190 of those positive cases are locally-identified ones, including the majority 54 from Colombo District, 46 from Jaffna district, 29 from Rathnapura district and 61 others from different districts, states the National Operations Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO).

General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff, Commander of the Army and Head, NOCPCO during one more Task Force meeting at the NOCPCO said that although there records a marked drop in detection of new COVID-19 cases, there are still a few clusters that have been reported from Kandy, Morawaka and Katunayake areas after patients coming to hospitals are exposed to PCR tests.

"The strategic control measures, quarantine procedures and other preventive restrictions that were closely adopted enabled all of us to bring the numbers of infected ones down on par with current world trends that went parallel with the introduction of the vaccine world-wide. The drop in numbers is due to social distancing, restrictions imposed and timely adopted measures", so said General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff, Commander of the Army and Head, National Operations Centre for Prevention of COVID 19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) addressing the routine Task Force meeting of the NOCPCO held on this evening (2).
