The National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) at Rajagriya, hitherto remained functional, headed by General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence and Commander of the Army as the central umbrella organization that coordinated all preventive, control, quarantine and all other related pandemic operations on the instructions given by HE the President will cease its functions upon completion of near 1 year and nine months after its inauguration on 16 March 2020.

“We have around 700 positive cases at present a day and still 20-30 deaths per day. Compared to the last week, there is an increase in numbers. We have managed to vaccinate 84% of the eligible population through the facilitation of the Health Ministry and the government facilitation. It was what was expected from us by the Nation and we have now started the inoculation of the booster dose,” so said General Shavendra Silva, Head, National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO), Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army addressing the routine NOCPCO Task Force meeting, held today (25) at Rajagiriya.

The national vaccination drive, spearheaded by members of the armed forces as recommended by the Ministry of Health, commenced one more progressive phase on Monday (1) by providing the 3rd dose or the booster dose to frontline health workers including tri-service men, Policemen, health and tourism sector personnel and other selected front liners.

The Home-based Integrated Patient Management System for COVID patients that got jointly underway with the Sri Lanka Medical Association (SLMA) and the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) as well as all NOCPCO Task Force members, Medical Specialists, Health Administrators, Civil and Military Medical Officers, Nurses, Paramedics, NOCPCO Officers and Other Ranks and all stakeholders came in for praise of General Shavendra Silva, Head, NOCPCO, Chief of Defence Staff and the Commander of the Army during one more meeting session of the NOCPCO Task Force, held this afternoon (24) at the NOCPCO in Rajagiriya with Medical Specialist, Dr Asela Gunwardena, Director General of Health Services.

The consignment of 300,000 doses of Sinopharm vaccines, gifted to the Armed Forces of Sri Lanka by the People's Liberation Army of China arrived in Sri Lanka this morning (28) along with 2 million more doses for Sri Lankans.
